USQ 2016 Leadership Conference

2016 Young Australians of the Year Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett founders of Orange Sky Laundry

Young Australians of the Year and best mates will address the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) community at the 2016 Leadership Conference on Wednesday (March 23).
Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett, who created Orange Sky Laundry and built a free mobile laundry in their old van to help the homeless, will share their story at the conference.
USQ Director for Student Engagement and Leadership Peter Muster said the purpose of the event was to inspire and motivate students to achieve their aspirations.
“We have some remarkable young speakers to talk to our students, our future leaders, about aspirations, motivation, leadership and making a difference within the community,” Mr Munster said.
“It also provides an opportunity for students to meet and interact with these community service leaders.
“The theme of the conference is ‘Service and Leadership’ and the group of presenters are all making waves in this field.”
As well as Orange Sky Laundry, students and staff will hear from Joining the Dots founder Penny Elsley who started the Welcome Dinner Project, connecting newly-arrived people with established Australians over dinner.
USQ Arts student Prudence Melom, co-founder of the E-raced Project and winner of the Triple J’s ‘Under-25 and Nailing It’ competition, will speak to her fellow students.
Ms Melom was also a 2014 Heywire Youth Summit Award recipient.
